Philip Rhoades on upcoming Australian cryonics facility
contributed by member on 2006-10-26
This article is a good quick overview of the Austrailian cryonics effort by Philip Rhoades. The facility, 200km from Sydney, is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2007 with members of Rhoades' immediate family the first to sign up. Also planned is a life extension village, next to the main facility, similar to a retirement home.

New Film "The Immortalist" to seriously depict life extension
contributed by member on 2006-10-19
Academy Award nominee Bennett Miller has been chosen to direct the upcoming film 'The Immortalist' a contemporary look a life extension. I wonder if this is based on the Alan Harrington novel of the same name.

"It’s not a science-fiction film. It’s a drama set in the very real world of those pursuing biological immortality,” said Miller. "It’s a pursuit that attracts some extremely brilliant, wealthy and influential people. It also attracts tragic figures. This story follows one such person on his disturbing foray into it.”

Mayo Clinic Study reveals DHEA has little effect passed age 60
contributed by member on 2006-10-18
A two year study by the Mayo Clinic shows no anti-aging effects of the hormone DHEA. 144 people over the age of 60 participated in the study which supplied replacement levels of the hormone. The study did, however, show an improvement in bone density.

The study did not examine the effect of greater than normal levels of DHEA. Results to be published in the October 19th issue of The New England Journal of Medicine.

Should Successful Cryosuspension Be Eligible for the MPrize?
contributed by member on 2006-10-18
This question is posted on the Methuselah blog site. The answer is probably no since cryopreservation is not the same as anti-aging. It would however qualify for Rudi's Lazarus Labrat prize once it becomes a reality.
